Meet Our Digital Marketing Apprentice

This week is National Apprenticeship week – the perfect time to talk about the benefits and the how-tos for employers and apprentices, through the eyes of our Digital Marketing Apprentice.

She has now finished her initial apprenticeship and has gone onto a degree-level apprenticeship with us, studying at Nottingham Trent University.

You might already know Helen, she handles all sorts of things under the umbrella of Digital Marketing for many of our clients. We sat down with Helen to ask a few questions about her apprenticeship…

What is your current job role?

I am the Digital Marketing Apprentice. I’m currently studying for a Digital Marketing Degree at Nottingham Trent University whilst working full time at Xposure. I work from home so I’m able to be flexible with both my work and study.

How long have you been working at Xposure?

I started my first apprenticeship at Xposure in August 2019. I started doing a level 3 digital marketing apprenticeship resulting in my merit diploma, I worked in the office until March 2020 at the start of the pandemic and completed my level 3 on zoom calls with my tutor. Then I have started my level 6 degree apprenticeship at Nottingham Trent in September 2021, which I will finish in March 2025.

Why did you choose a Digital Marketing apprenticeship?

In the summer of 2019, I had just finished GCSE’s and was completely stuck on what to do, I was 15 and had so many choices. I could do a-levels, a course at my local college (I considered becoming a massage therapist of all things) or an apprenticeship. I looked around as soon as I left school and applied for as many as I could first looking at business administration ones then one in marketing. I always loved business, my favourite shows are Dragons Den and The Apprentice, so I knew I wanted to do something involving the business/corporate world.

What does a typical day working at Xposure look like for you?

At 9:30 we have our morning meeting, we discuss the work we carried out the day before, and to talk and arrange our tasks for the day ahead. Then I put my tasks in order so I know how to tackle it. I make myself a cup of tea and have a biscuit before getting on with the tasks of the day.

Usually day to day, I’m coming up with ideas for social media marketing for different clients, formalising social media strategies, managing and scheduling the posts, putting together email campaigns, video editing, on page SEO, and a lot more depending on each client’s needs and requirements.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a typical girl, I love shopping, that’s why it is great doing an apprenticeship rather than traditional university as although I’m still getting a degree, I’m also earning a salary alongside it.

What is your favourite holiday destination

One I have already been to is Crete, I went in September 2021 and we stayed at Stella Island, a stunning resort and had the best time. A place that’s on my bucket list to go to soon is New York, my favourite show Gossip Girl was filmed there and it’s definitely a must for me to go in 2023.

What is your favourite food?

My favourite food is probably a takeaway like McDonald’s or Papa Johns. I much prefer savoury foods over sweets and always seem to end up at the McDonald’s drive-thru.

What would you say is your greatest achievement?

I would say my apprenticeship is definitely one, the apprenticeship market can be very competitive and as more and more people are seeing the benefits of apprenticeships there is a lot more competition and work to get one.
