Yesterday saw the arrival of the Olympic Torch and about a month’s worth of rain in Mansfield, at the same time! As part of the celebrations for the London 2012 Olympics, the torch has been touring around the country, and yesterday made it’s way to Nottingham, passing through Mansfield using the route laid out on the Official Olympic Torch route map for Mansfield, designed by our very own Richard for Mansfield District Council.
The rain continued to fall and far from dampening spirits, people turned out in their hundreds and crowded around the town (in wellies and waterproofs!) to catch a glimpse of the ancient flame as it was escorted up and down the streets. The route had a stopping point at the Rebecca Addlington swimming pool where it was greeted by the Mayor of Mansfield, and where Xposure made its first appearance of the day on the BBC torch relay camera! The Mayor stood on a stage outside the pool, welcoming the latest torch bearer, and his back drop was the Olympic banner created by Richard (once again!) for Mansfield District Council.
Our second appearance on the BBC torch relay camera (and the BBC news website!), came from Jeff as he braved the elements to photograph the event! Jeff was lucky enough to witness, and catch on camera, the unforgettable moment when the torch actually went out, and the running was suspended due to a lightning storm in the area!
